Disclaimer & Terms of Use
Last updated: October 11, 2026
The Short Version
- We are an educational website and referral service. We are not an energy supplier, utility, broker, aggregator, or reseller.
- Everything on this site is for general educational purposes only and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date.
- Calculators, bill analysis, market data, and savings figures are estimates, not quotes, offers, or guarantees.
- Always verify pricing, contract terms, and licensing directly with a PUCO-certified energy broker or supplier before you sign anything.
- If you request a broker match, we share your information with independent brokers. Brokers may pay us for referrals and for other services we provide to them.
This summary is provided for convenience. The full terms below control.
1. Acceptance of These Terms
These Terms of Use and Disclaimer (the “Terms”) govern your use of ohioenergyadvisor.com and any related tools, calculators, content, forms, and communications (together, the “Site”), operated by Ohio Energy Advisor (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site. If you use the Site on behalf of a business, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf.
2. Who We Are — and Who We Are Not
Ohio Energy Advisor is an educational resource and referral service. We help Ohio businesses learn about the competitive energy market and, when they ask, connect them with independent energy brokers. We are not:
- an electric or natural gas utility;
- a competitive retail electric or natural gas supplier, marketer, or reseller;
- an energy broker, aggregator, or procurement consultant; or
- your agent, advisor, or fiduciary.
We do not sell, resell, or take title to electricity or natural gas. We do not provide price quotes or offers, and we do not negotiate, arrange, or sign energy contracts on your behalf. We are not a party to any agreement between you and any broker, supplier, or utility.
3. Educational Purposes Only; No Professional Advice
All content on the Site — including articles, guides, industry pages, market commentary, calculators, the Bill Analyzer, the Market Dashboard, broker and supplier information, and any communications from us — is provided for general educational and informational purposes only. Nothing on the Site is legal, financial, tax, accounting, engineering, or energy-procurement advice, and nothing on the Site is an offer, solicitation, recommendation, or quote to buy or sell any energy product or service. Consult qualified professionals about your specific situation.
4. Information May Be Inaccurate or Out of Date
Energy markets, rates, utility tariffs, regulations, and supplier offers change frequently. We try to keep the Site accurate, but we do not guarantee that any information is accurate, complete, current, or suitable for your purposes. In particular:
- Market data, including wholesale (PJM) pricing, may be delayed, estimated, incomplete, or provided by third parties, and should not be relied on for purchasing decisions.
- Calculators and savings estimates are hypothetical illustrations based on simplified assumptions and the information you enter. Actual results depend on your usage, load profile, utility, contract terms and timing, and market conditions, and may differ materially.
- The Bill Analyzer uses automated text recognition in your browser, which can misread or miss information. Always check results against your actual bill.
- Savings depend on your business and the market. Whether you can save, and how much, depends on your usage, your current rate and contract, and market conditions when you buy. Any savings figure or example on the Site is illustrative, not a prediction of typical results or a promise that you will save any amount.
- Broker, supplier, and utility information (such as names, descriptions, features, minimum usage, and licensing status) may be incomplete or out of date and is not an endorsement.
5. Verify Everything Before You Decide
Before making any energy decision or signing any contract, you are responsible for independently verifying all pricing, terms, fees, and other information directly with a broker or supplier certified by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). We encourage you to:
- confirm the broker’s or supplier’s current certification with the PUCO;
- compare offers, including on the state’s Energy Choice Ohio “Apples to Apples” comparison site;
- read the entire contract, including term length, early termination fees, pass-through charges, automatic renewal provisions, and how the broker is paid; and
- ask questions until you fully understand the agreement.
You remain solely responsible for your energy purchasing decisions.
6. Broker Referrals
When you submit a request through the Site (for example, a broker-match or quote form), you authorize us to share the information you provide — such as your name, business name, email address, phone number, ZIP code, industry, and energy usage — with one or more independent energy brokers we work with, so they can contact you about your request. You consent to being contacted about your request by us and by those brokers by email and by telephone using the contact information you provide. You may withdraw this consent at any time by contacting us, and you may tell any broker directly to stop contacting you.
Please understand that:
- Brokers are independent businesses. They are not our employees, agents, partners, or joint venturers, and we do not control their advice, pricing, services, or conduct.
- A referral is not an endorsement. We do not recommend or guarantee any broker, supplier, product, price, or result, and we do not guarantee that any broker will contact you, provide a quote, or offer terms acceptable to you.
- Your contract is with them, not us. Any agreement you enter is solely between you and the broker, supplier, and/or utility, and is governed by their terms, disclosures, and privacy policies.
- How we are paid. We do not charge you a fee to use the Site. We may receive compensation from brokers for referrals or for business that results from a referral. We also provide software and other services to energy brokers, and brokers we refer you to may pay us for those services. Brokers are typically paid by suppliers through fees built into your energy price, so any compensation we receive may come from those amounts. Ask any broker to disclose in writing all compensation that they, and any referral partner, will receive in connection with your contract.
7. Third-Party Names, Content, and Links
The Site may mention or link to utilities, suppliers, brokers, government agencies, and other third parties. These references are for informational purposes only. Unless we expressly say otherwise, we are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any company named on the Site, and all trademarks belong to their respective owners. We are not responsible for third-party websites, content, products, or services; your use of them is at your own risk and subject to their terms.
8. No Guarantee of Savings or Results
We do not guarantee that you will obtain a lower rate, save money, or achieve any particular outcome. Energy prices can rise as well as fall, and a contract that looks favorable when signed may not remain so.
9. Your Responsibilities
When using the Site, you agree to:
- provide accurate information, and submit requests only for a business you are authorized to represent;
- not submit another person’s contact information without their permission;
- not use the Site for any unlawful, misleading, or fraudulent purpose; and
- not scrape, overload, disrupt, or attempt unauthorized access to the Site, or submit forms by automated means.
10. Intellectual Property
The Site and its content, design, text, graphics, tools, and software are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by intellectual property laws. You may view and print content for your own internal business use. You may not copy, republish, sell, or create derivative works from the Site without our prior written permission.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT, TOOLS, DATA, AND REFERRALS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, OR AVAILABILITY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OHIO ENERGY ADVISOR AND ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, SAVINGS, DATA, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SITE, ITS CONTENT, ANY REFERRAL, OR THE ACTS OR OMISSIONS OF ANY BROKER, SUPPLIER, UTILITY, OR OTHER THIRD PARTY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SITE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers or liability limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Ohio Energy Advisor and its owners, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your misuse of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or information you submit through the Site.
14. Governing Law and Venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Site will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Ohio, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
15. Changes and General Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time by posting a revised version on this page and changing the “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the revised Terms. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Site.
