Load Factor Calculator

Understand how efficiently your business uses electricity and discover rate optimization opportunities.

Calculate Your Load Factor

Total kilowatt-hours used in the billing period

Your maximum demand recorded during the month

Default is 730 hours (average month)

What is Load Factor?

Load factor measures how consistently you use electricity throughout the month. It's the ratio of your average demand to your peak demand, expressed as a percentage.

Load Factor = (Total kWh ÷ Hours) ÷ Peak kW × 100

Why It Matters

  • Better Rates: Higher load factors often qualify for better commercial rates
  • Lower Demand Charges: Steady usage means smaller demand spikes
  • Energy Efficiency: Indicates how well you're utilizing your electrical capacity

Load Factor Ratings

70%+: Excellent - 24/7 operations, best rates available
50-70%: Good - Multi-shift operations
30-50%: Average - Typical office/retail
<30%: Low - Significant demand charge impact

Ohio Industry Benchmarks
